About Me

Hi I'm Julia Baker,

I was born in Australia to German/English parents who have been entertaining with Punch and Judy for 25 years. They are now living back in Germany and still going strong with the show.  So many of my childhood memories involved watching my parents putMum and Dad on their show and it is from them that I have inherited my love of entertaining.

I have an Aussie husband and two wonderful children of my own which gives me a great insight into what makes Dad with Punchkids tick (even the big one's) and how to keep them involved and amused.

The sheer joy of watching the children react and laugh to the show and their excitement of seeing something different is what motivates me. I  love nothing more than knowing that the audience whether young or old have had a magical and memorable experience.

I am a Blue Card Holder and although my show is based on the European tradition of Punch and Judy it is infused with a modern Aussie sensibility and has many extra attractions.

Q: What age group is the show aimed at?

A: Aged Four up to Eight is the ideal range.
Q: How Long is the Show? A: Approximately 2 hours for both the show and puppet making.
Q: How much space do you need?A: I do not need much just enough for the booth (6ftx6ft) (and of course the audience!). The average living room or backyard is plenty.
Q: What do I need to provide? A: Nothing except a table for puppet making. But even that is not essential
Q: Is it messy? A: Not at all, there is no paint involved and I am very good at clearing up after myself.
Q: How many children do you cater for? A: Any amount. But I do require to know how many so I know how many puppets to provide.
Q: Do you charge for travel? A: Not if you are within the Greater Brisbane area. Outside of that is an extra $20 depending on the distance
Q: Do you require a deposit?A: No. Just put the money in an envelope and I will collect it on the day.

Dear Julia

This is just a note to say thank you very much for keeping the preschoolers and toddlers at Erinleigh’s 3rd birthday party so thoroughly entertained. The show was very interactive and fun for both the boys and girls, but the highlight for many of the kids was the puppet making after the theatre – they LOVED it – all the kids got something unique from the experience!!

Thankyou for an extremely well organised Birthday Party. My Son Cameron is still telling everyone about his "Mr Punch Puppet Party". You not only kept the children happy but all of the adults were just as entertained. The Puppet making added to all of the fun and excitement of an excellent day had by all - The cake was fantastic, you really did take away all of the stress that can sometimes rise when amusing twenty 5 year olds. Everyone has commented on what a great job you did. I hope that you enjoy these photos.

Dear Julia

We all wanted to say a BIG thank you to you. The children have not stopped going on about the show and how wonderful the whole event was for them. We were amazed to see how well you kept the children entertained (especially as most of the twenty kids were three to five year olds), they were mesmerised and enjoyed it thoroughly. It did not go unnoticed that you made the effort to learn all the childrens' names...you were quite fantastic and it was a pleasure to meet you. They all loved the puppet making experience and that includes most of the parents too who all got involved.  

We have given your number to Educare at Wellington Point, the childcare centre Nasrene attends as they sometimes book entertainment for the children. We would be happy to recommend you to anyone who wants a fantastic party. Nasrene enjoyed her role as the magician and the icecream cake was delicious! 

We saw a puppet show at a local shopping centre today...and the kids said quite loudly that it was not as good as Julia's! Well can't fault their honesty!

Hi Julia,

My humble apologies for only thanking you now for the lovely show you put on for Kendra’s birthday.  I eventually got to sit down on this Sunday and watched the video where I thoroughly enjoyed the show and realized why everyone had such a super time. The parents and children still talk about Kendra’s birthday party. You were great and made a great impression on everyone. It was ,and more than likely be, the best birthday party Kendra will have perhaps until she turns 21. Thank you so much for help making this a day we all will not forget.
